Entry Guidelines for the Arts Competition

NHS North East Hampshire & Farnham Clinical Commissioning Group, in partnership with The Princess Royal Trust for Carers in Hampshire, Action for Carers Surrey and Hart & Rushmoor Young Carers, invite carers to enter an arts competition.  There will be celebration events at the September Carers' Hubs/Support Groups.

Entries which receive an outstanding award will be invited to the Elvetham Hotel in Fleet on Wednesday 27 November 2019, with a guest, for a celebratory afternoon tea.

Please ensure you read these guidelines carefully, as entries that do not meet the guidelines may be rejected.

You can enter the arts competition if:

  1. You are an unpaid carer: A carer is anyone who cares, unpaid, for a friend or family member who due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction cannot cope without their support (Carers Trust: https://carers.org/what-carer)
  2. You live within the following areas or are registered with one of the GP practices within North East Hampshire & Farnham Clinical Commissioning Group's boundaries;
    This includes:
    • Aldershot
    • Farnborough (including Cove)
    • Fleet (including Crondall & Church Crookham)
    • Yateley
    • Farnham

Age Groups

There are 2 age groups:

  • 16 years and younger
  • 17 years and over

There is no lower or upper age limit.

Anyone under the age of 18 submitting an entry must have their entry form countersigned by a parent or legal guardian.


Categories

There are four categories that you can enter:

  1. Painting/collage/modelling
  2. Creative writing (written/spoken word)
  3. Photography
  4. Music/dance (sound recording or video)

You can only enter once, either as an individual or as a group entry in a category of your choice.

The definition of a Group is that there can be up to 5 members in a Group and they must all be unpaid carers.

Your entry can be about:

  • This is caring

or

  • My life outside of caring

Closing date:

  • The closing date for receipt of all entries will be 5pm on Wednesday, 31 July 2019. All entries received after this date will not be considered.

Collection/Return of entries

Entrants can collect their entries from the Carers Hubs/Support Group in September.  Entries that are awarded as “Outstanding” can be collected after the Celebrating Carers event in November.

Please ensure that your entry meets the following criteria:

Artwork

To be no larger than A1 size:
Metric width & Height (mm)    594 x 841 mm
Imperial width & height (in)     23.4 x 33.1 inches

 

Models/Sculpture

To be no larger than:
Metric (mm)                            300 mm
Imperial height (in)                  12 inches in height

 

Photographs:

no larger than A4
Metric width & Height (mm)    210 x 297 mm
Imperial width & height (in)     8.3 x 11.7 inches

 

Writing

2 sides of A4 – typeface to be Arial size 12 or handwritten (single space between lines)

 

Spoken/Music/Video

No longer than 3 minutes


Help with doing your art – Adults Only

The website will have details or links to where you can get support in doing your artwork.  Mainly this will be at the Carers Hubs in Aldershot, Farnborough, Yateley and Fleet.  You do not need to make an appointment to attend a carers hub – you can just turn up.  It would be helpful if you could telephone or email the Princess Royal Trust for Carers before you attend to let them know so they can ensure they have the correct materials.  Please make contact by:

Submission and return of entries

Entries cannot be collected or returned by the organisers, this remains the responsibility of the entrant. 

Entries can be submitted in person at the Carers Hubs, by post or email.  Entries can also be brought to the CCG offices at Aldershot Centre for Health on Thursday 11 and Tuesday 30 July between 9am and 5pm.

The organisers will take reasonable steps to ensure that all entries are kept safe and are not damaged; however, we do not take responsibility for lost, misplaced or damaged items.  Anything that has a value should not be submitted.  Entrants should consider entering a photograph of their artwork.

If you wish your entry to be returned you will need to collect it from the celebratory events in September or by collection at the CCG offices at Aldershot Centre for Health.  All entries that are not collected by Thursday 17 October will become the property of the CCG and may be displayed or disposed of at the discretion of the CCG.  Details of how to return entries not collected at the celebration event in September will be provided at a later date.


Celebratory Events

There will be a celebratory event in each area in September 2019, everyone submitting an entry will be invited to attend and will receive a certificate.  Entries that are judged to be outstanding will be announced at these events and will be invited (with a guest) to attend the Celebrating Carers Afternoon Tea at the Elvetham Hotel on Wednesday 27 November 2019.
